Hector Molina for County Commission

SAN DIEGO – At the recommendation of County Supervisor Greg Cox, the County Board of Supervisors has unanimously appointed respected former journalist Hector C. Molina to an important commission that oversees cable television issues in the region.

Molina was formally appointed Tuesday to the Cable Television Review Commission, an independent body that investigates, conducts hearings and renders administrative decisions on cable television matters in the unincorporated areas of the county.

The Commission also oversees a cable grant program that awards grants to nonprofit organizations to produce educational video programs. Five grants of up to $10,000 are awarded each year.

“Hector Molina brings vast experience in both local television and radio to the Commission,” said Cox. “He is also an esteemed former journalist and pioneer in Spanish-language media who remains very knowledgeable about the issues facing our region. I look forward to having his voice on the commission.”

Molina is a resident of Chula Vista. He was appointed to a term that expires in January, 2013. He is the CEO of TransBorder Communications.

“I am honored to be selected by Supervisor Cox for this important position,” said Molina. “I look forward to using my years of experience and knowledge to serve the public.”

Molina has a distinguished 35-year career in Spanish-language media at local, national and international levels. His career includes working for National Public Radio and developing radio programming in the U.S., and in Honduras, Chile and Uruguay.

Locally, he has hosted and produced radio programs for KPBS radio, Radio Latina and Radio Z-13 in Tijuana. He has also been a station manager for Univision TV in San Diego.

Molina has received many awards for his accomplishments, including the Ruben Salazar Media Award for excellence in Journalism from the National Council of La Raza and the California Chicano News Media Association’s La Pluma Award for Lifetime Achievement.
